Masked Gunmen Rob Franklin Square Poker Tournament
Four armed men disguised with ski masks stormed a Franklin Square poker tournament, taking with them cash, wallets and mobile phones, according to Nassau Police.
The four masked men reportedly entered the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall located at 68 Lincoln Rd. in Franklin Square at around 10:30 in the evening Saturday, November 18. An estimated 80 people were inside the venue, taking part in an ongoing poker tournament.
The men threatened the people with guns, all the while demanding money from the tournament pot. While at it, they also took wallets, purses, and other valuables from the guests. Nobody was hurt in the incident.
The robbers were able to get away with cash amounting to an estimated $20,000-$40,000.
Witnesses described the suspects as men in their early twenties, averaging 5 feet 7 inches tall, and wearing dark clothing.
The poker event which police described as a "fundraiser", is a tournament held regularly at the VFW hall by a group named All-American Poker. Entrants need to pay $100 to register, plus a $30 donation to the VFW branch for the chance to win the $3,000-plus cash prize.
A representative from the All-American Poker group who only identified himself as Elliot refused to comment on the incident.
